Is there something like the old XF86Setup package out there? Text mode?

What I have done in the past as a last resort is use a LiveCD distro, and
then either email the xorg.conf file to myself or copy the xorg.conf file to
a USB drive (or floppy). Load the distro you actually want to use, and then
in text mode, switch out the xorg.conf files.
