How do I fix a mistake in a feature of Kmail?

I kept Vista on this machine because I need it for a project (which consists
of building a good Ubuntu VM for a university course :-) ) but I don't
actually _work_ in it.  I've been relatively happy with XP and Vista -
compared to the older versions - but I wouldn't let my Mother use them if I
actually had to support them.
