Sorry, I wasn't aware of the fact that you have no internet access with 
that machine. So maybe you could modify the 
file /etc/network/interfaces (as root). According to 
<http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/reference/ch-gateway.en.html> it 
should look like this:

auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
  wireless-essid myessid
  wireless-key 123456789e
