kontact and konqueror problems

I've been using a couple of google calandars with kontact for months; is it
a very complex calendar or something? I've never had any trouble, at least
insofar as reading calendars is concerned. I don't think I've ever tried to
write to a google calendar file from kontact.

This shouldn't make any difference, but I wonder why you're using a script
rather than kontact's built-in synchronization mechanism. I always use the
latter.
