Kwallet, Kmail and Gmail.

I use POP3 with GMail and find it very practical for what I want.  If you are 
sure that you want KMail you would probably be happy with it.  But if you 
would like to be able to have access from several email clients or various 
locations, then you would probably be happier with IMAP.  I have not used it 
so cannot comment.

I have been happy with the level of security.  If you were paranoid you would 
probably not use GMail.
