Jaunty: How to install a USB printer?

This one baffled me too for awhile, until I found that the first print
listed under "Network Printers" was in fact my local printer. I don't
see why a local printer would be listed under network printers, and I
presume this is a bug. But that's where I found it, and how I got the
USB printer working on my system.
