Ahem! It means something to which you are entitled, but which it is 
ruthless to demand. Usually said such as, "I want my/He wants his pound 
of flesh". So it's not wholly appropriate here, imo; there's nothing 
ruthless. Gotta love idiomatic English. But yup, a read of the Merchant 
of Venice is very much worthwhile :-)
