KDE4.3 beta issues

Right, because it started off as a CDE clone.

The "not ready for end users" bit was very clear. So why did your
distro ignore that part?

No it wasn't. It was the release of stable API's. That meant that
applications based on those APIs could be written. The KDE desktop
(plasma in particular) is one of those applications.

What mistake, exactly? Releasing their code? The stable 3.5.x series
had been available and was the recommended download from KDE 4.0 until
the latest KDe 4.1.x. In fact, even now KDE 3.5.10 is still listed on
the download page as "the more mature version of KDE". If KDE did not
release 4.0 the the applications based on that technology could never
have been written, which includses the plasma desktop.

I agree, the desktop was not ready. Everyone knows that. It was made
very clear by KDE that this was the case. Fault your distro for
jumping on "new and shiney".
