anyone using SiS graphics?

Got a desktop with SiS chip built-in graphics (more than one I am 
afraid). Worked OK on 8.04, decided to put 9.10 Karmic.

Wreaks havoc to the graphics, first got 800*600. Created an xorg.conf 
(WHO decided it was a good idea to remove  dpkg-reconfigure 
xserver-xorg!!!!!) and put some lines for refresh rates there. Have got 
graphics "back working" sort of but it looks... crap, in short. It is 
"fuzzy", refuses to remember what I set as default (via System Settings, 
Display) between reboots and it just not I would want to harass any user 
with.

Anyone has SiS and got any clues? I have scouted around on the net a bit 
but not found much else but frustration.
