Missing bottom menus in OOo

Dear all,

I realised that the menus that are usually at the bottom of the OOo window are 
missing after the upgrade to Karmic.  I mean the one that show insert/over 
wright function, choose language  function, signature alike.  The only thing 
that I got is a small icon with a document with a red sign stating that the 
doc I am using has been changed.

Interestingly, it I do click on the places where usually these menus are, they 
do appear temporarily.

Any ideas how to solve this are welcome. I use the OOo 3.1 that comes with 
Karmic.
