I can't shrink available partition during install

Hi guys,

I installed Karmic on a couple different computers. On only one of them,
installation process didn't give me possibility to shrink available vista
partition, so that I could install Karmic.

I shrank the vista partition from inside vista. But still Karmic install cd
didn't allow me to install Karmic on that new space. What can be the reason
for that. Does it depend on hard drive type for instance?
