Does okular work directly from a PDF file? It's a small 'o' BTW.
Try to open a PDF from the command-line and see if there are any errors:
$okular somefile.pdf

IIRC, when you tell FF what app to use, you get a file browser (which sucks) 
and you have to go into /usr/bin and then find 'okular' -- so that should have 
got you the right binary. Perhaps you could try again.
