Yes, this is just temporary measure so that you could use your
computer. It is not optimum yet but keep that xorg.conf handy so that
as and when you face problem, you could use it for emergency.

There is no harm to try it again but in my opinion it would not solve
the problem.

I think that is kubuntu specific, which I do not use it. So, other
member should be able to advise you easily on the above settings.

What I suggest is to try below steps, hoepfully it works:
1. sudo apt-get remove xserver-xorg-video-intel
2. Download one of below package, depending on your architecture:
For 64 bit: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/25090563/xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.6.3-0ubuntu9_amd64.deb
For 32 bit: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/25090475/xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.6.3-0ubuntu9_i386.deb
and install it, even if it is complain the package is old.
After finished the installation, run:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
and reboot. Hopefully it works. If it works, lock the
xserver-xorg-video-intel to avoid being upgraded back to latest
version.
