I just uninstalled Karmic and re-installed Jaunty from scratch.
Wonderland would not run at all in Karmic... and I hailed all the Java
guru's I could find to remedy the problem. ONLY re-install to Jaunty
cured it. IMHO, for heavy Java applications, I'd not recommend Karmic.
Then network-mangler did the usual and ignored my /etc/host file and
assigned me another ip address using dhcp. I fired up the KDE setup
mangler and using the network setup was NOT intuitive at all... not to
me and I've been around since the 9 floppy disk Slackware install days.
It's been the bain of every Linux install I've ever used. Is there some
reason, after many years, it ain't just fixed?? Can someone assemble a
blue ribbon committee of the real gearheads to put it right?? I'll bake
cookies, if that is what it takes, or send a pizza or two. Veggie or
extra meat?? Tell me where to deliver it. :) Ric
