*Hello Lisi

In your first mail of this thread, you mentioned that you work with Kubuntu
Karmic. So do I, so I am happy to guide you now step-by-step in case you are
on line.
*

*My solution worked in my case. But as long as you have not solved the
problem, keep also please an open eye for the suggestions of Myriam and
others. *

*In my previous mail, I already tried to explain this. May be it better to
act now step-by-step. Let's start now with step 1, which I have summarised
as follows:.*

>
> > First I went to:
> > http://www.kubuntu.org/
> > From there, I copied this phrase - a repository you need to add:
> > deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/backports/ubuntu karmic main
>

*Open a text editor - OpenOffice, KOffice, Kate or whatever. And copy-paste
there the EXACTLY the following phrase:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/**kubuntu-ppa/backports/ubuntu karmic main

Now let's go to step 2, which I summarised as follows:*

> I did so by carefully following the instructions at a page which
> > explains how to 'add a repository':
> > https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Kubuntu
> > But of course, instead of the repository mentioned there, I added the
> > repository mentioned above.
>

*Please, carefully read now this page::
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Kubuntu
Than carry out the instructions there in order to "add" this repository:
**deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/backports/ubuntu karmic main
**Here I try to summarise the instructions at the Repositories page.
First go to your text editor and copy *EXACTLY *the phrase **deb ....karmic
main,** 2 lines above this one.*
*Than go to KPackagekit:
K-MENU > SYSTEM SETTINGS > add and remove software > settings > than press
at ' Edit software sources'.
Than, you will be asked for your root password. Fill in this password, press
ENTER and go to the tab 'other software'. Now press at 'ADD' and simply
carry out the command 'CONTROL-V', in order to paste the whole phrase ** **deb
....karmic main.**
If this does not work, go again to the text editor, select the phrase, copy
it there, go back to KPackagekit and paste the phrase again.
After succesfully pasting this phrase, press at 'OK' , and than at 'close'.

Now, before doing ANYTHING ELSE, close ALL applications, except KPackagekit.
Now, carry out the 'GPG key test' as I have summarised here:
*

> >
> > Before installing the updates of that repository, but after 'adding'
> > that repository, I carried out a 'GPG key test' via a command line in
> > Konsole. See for details:
> > http://www.kubuntu.org/faq/PPA-keys
> > This test did not deliver any failures, so I went on to the next step:
> (...)
>

*In other words: open a terminal, e.g. Konsole. Firs copy-paste and carry
out the following command:
**gpg --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv 2836CB0A8AC93F7A

Than copy-paste and carry out this one:
**gpg --export --armor 2836CB0A8AC93F7A | sudo apt-key add -

If this test works out fine, i.e. without failure reports, go on with the
next step, which I summarised as follows:*

> > I simply installed ALL the updates available now in that repository -
> > in order to avoid mistakes.
>

*Now, go back to KPackagekit and CLOSE ALL OTHER APPLICATIONS. Press at
'Software updates'. After a few minutes, you will see a list with a whole
bunch of software updates, including the newest stable versions of Amarok
and KDE. If and when you see this list, press at 'select all updates'. Than
press at something like 'apply' and the upgrade starts. The time you will
need for this depends from your internet connection. After probably a few
minutes, the process will finish. Only after checking that the process
really has finished, leave KPackagekit, restart you PC and test Amarok.
Please, tell to this list about the results of your efforts after following
these instructions.
*

> Again, how did you do the upgrading? My attempts aren't being very
> successful.
>

*Please, follow the instructions above as exactly as you can. *

> Yes - that sounds a very good idea, if I could only achieve it.
>

*Follow the instructions, than test Amarok and get back to us.*

*'TIA': ???*

*i hope these instructions will help.

Respectfully yours,

Bas.
