Ripping CDs

Dear all,

I was trying to rip a cd into mp3 file, something I was doing fine with K3b
in Jaunty. Now in Karmic (without making any changes), the output file is
with terrible noise, like a radio that is not tuned in. Ripping the same CD
in ogg format works fine.
Any ideas what is wrong?
