USB Flash Drive

I have an HP 8GB flash drive.  Kubuntu will detect the device, as per dmesg, 
but fails to mount the same.  If I insert into a windows machine and run eject 
and the return it to the Linux box, it will be recognized; removing the device 
from the Linux box will result in the same drive to fail to mount unless it 
makes another visit to Windows machine.  I did try to unmount before removing 
the device.  Any ideas?
