20090909KU -- Desktop-to-Tray?

Greetings --

I am running Kubuntu Jaunty.  I am trying to get away from using the 
mouse, as I find it increasingly painful in many settings.  Instead, I am 
using a Wacom (brand) Bamboo (model) pen-and-tablet for most purposes.

I have found a most peculiar problem (which seems, in part, to be well-
known) -- the pen-and-tablet simply do NOT work with items found on the 
desktop.  Presumably, this will be fixed in the next year or so.

One item (VirtualBox OSE) appears BOTH on the desktop (as such) AND on 
the System Tray -- and I have recently discovered that the pen-and-
tablet WORKS on Tray items!!!

This raises the question, is there a way (preferably one as simple as I 
am!) to effectively copy my desktop icons to the (expanded?) System Tray?
