Installing nvidia driver from cmd line

Thanks to all who replied.
A simple sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade did the trick (it was probably the new kernel).
After that he was able to intall the nvidia driver and is now 'playing around' with his new 
install.......
