I have no clue what "reason 2" might be. But the OP isn't alone with 
his killswitch problem:

As I don't have NM installed, I can't really look through the local 
docu, and there doesn't seem to be much of a mention of it online.
If you have NM installed, you may want to try looking through the NM-
related directories in /usr/share/doc/ and what manpages may be 
available.
