Lucid keeps freezing up

I've had the problem with both Lucid kernels. Now I'm trying out the mainline 
kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.34-lucid/ as 
mentioned in the bug report.

I have the same symptom as William describes with the fan running amok; I was 
able to power the system off though.

It would be a good idea to go through the instructions given to me in the bug 
report and perhaps also report your results there.
