Server

Don't know where, or really what, to ask. Yesterday I inherited a nice
server but of course they didn't know the password to log in with. Now,
I know pretty much nothing about running a server so this is going to be
a learning curve, and maybe another half.

From what I can tell it's got an Intel server motherboard, three SCSI
drives in a RAID setup [ I assume hardware RAID by the looks of it but
I'm not sure how to tell ] with connections for two more, a CD, Floppy
and tape drive. it runs Windows 2000, if I could get into it. It looks
like it might have an Intel P3 processor, or at least on of that family.
Sits on a separate little board that plugs in vertical to the
motherboard. I haven't pulled out the memory sticks so not sure how much
it actually has but there's four sticks in place with chips down both sides.

I was really hoping for a turnkey kind of deal to learn how it all
works. It's beginning to look more and more like I will have to blow it
and install a new OS. I'm looking at Ubuntu Server if it comes down to
that, but wonder how much problem I'm going to have getting things like
RAID to work being a complete newb to such stuff.

We have a static IP from our provider and have been thinking about a
server for some time to host my web page and some others maybe and just
a file repository etc for the home network. Not a "BIG" kind of deal really.

Any thoughts or suggestions greatly appreciated.
