Imho this depends.
If you REALLY look at it, laptops are ergonomically crappy
in regard to keyboard and screen, They also are notoriously
bad in regard to updating the machine. Moreover they also
are extremely costly when it comes to spare parts and repair
costs and reliability is much worse.

So my take is: Take a laptop, if you need one, otherwise a
desktop is nearly always a better choice.
