Lucid screwed some users after upgrade/unsolicited update

look at https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unattended-
upgrades/+bug/586497

Scott Kitterman (a Kubuntu dev) suggests uninstalling kpackagekit, 
but that will also remove the update notifications as well. But it 
stopped the automatic installs for him
