That suggests that plasma-desktop didn't start, either because it was
uninstalled during the upgrade or because it crashed.
The easiest way to find out what is going on is to switch to a tty
(Ctrl-Alt-F2), executing the command "export DISPLAY=:0" and then "plasma-
desktop". If it complains about not finding the command, it got uninstalled
(execute "apt-get install plasma-desktop). If it crashes, an update might work
(there was a crash that was fixed yesterday).
