When attached to a cable internet connection, I run apt-get update and about 
40 packages appeared -- some plasma related.  When upgraded, all works fine.  
It seems that indeed not all packages were downloaded and due to my lack of 
knowledge on how to connect the wifi through terminal I couldn't fetch these.
