Tips on installing Google Earth

These tips come from learning the hard way and having to do a re-install :-(

If you want to install Google Earth, first install the msttfcorefonts package (it is included in
the kubuntu-restricted-extras package).
Then reboot - yes I know but this is how to get things working.

Then download the google earth deb from the google earth website:
When it is downloaded, right click on the file and choose to install using qapt-deb-installer.
This will tell you that some dependencies have to be downloaded and installed first. It does it
but doesn't give any indication that it has finished. I had to wait and then close it, right
click on the .deb file and then it installed google earth.
Perhaps a better way if from a terminal:
sudo dpkg -i packagename.deb

DON'T install qt-config -- I'm certain messing around with its font settings messed up my system
fonts to the point I had to reinstall Oneiric :-(

Hope this helps somebody from having to reinstall due to messed up ugly fonts....

Nigel
