Testing KDE 4.9 Can't Open Synaptic

Hi,

I am testing KDE 4.9 under Kubuntu and when I try to open Synaptic and 
enter root password I get this error:

Permission denied.
Possibly incorrect password, please try again.
On some systems, you need to be in a special group (often: wheel) to use 
this program
