WIFI/ KNetworkmanager: very good at one netbook, weird behaviour at another one.

Seemingly, the problem because of which I started this thread, has been solved.

At the machine in question, the HP Pavilion dm 1, I carried out
another fresh install. I first loaded Kubuntu from the DVD to the
laptop. After doing so, I activated a wireless internet connection
before starting the installation process. After the installation, I
have used the "workaround" summarised above only once. At each restart
afterwords, the system automatically and correctly catches the WIFI
signal.
