Short answer, close alpine and edit your smtp-server in .pinerc file...
The example at utah.edu is:
smtp-server=smtps.cs.utah.edu:587/tls/user=username/novalidate-cert
If you want to send the mail to your local Linux machine on the LAN, or
the same machine postfix is one server commonly used. I use exim4, and
instructions on setting it up are at:
