Apper problem

I'm wondering if that is the same thing I've been experiencing with Flash on 
all the computers here? It installed all the updates, but then I saw a light 
bulb icon in the system tray. I clicked on it and it said something about 
needing to update Flash which then opened an empty Konsole window.

What happens if you open up Konsole and do:
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
