Which driver is that, the nvidia-96 or nvidia-173?  Have you searched
for a bug report?  If you can't find one, please file a bug report and
let us know the number so others can find it.

Last release, 12.04,  we had problems with the older nvidia cards and it
was a few months (I think 3-6 months depending on which nvidia driver
you needed) until they were resolved.  I ended up buying a new AGP video
card for a friend to help resolve the issue and improve performance.  On
another machine I found an unfriendly work around that involved pinning X
packages from the previous release, and those kind of work around's can
lead to further problems.
