not much help either, am running Firefox with kde support but otherwise 
no different from "stock" kubuntu firefox. I see 12 sites myself and the 
parameter you mention is set to exactly that, 12.

if you want firefox with kde support check out this ppa, it might make a 
difference for some reason since we do not understand the cause:
