Why Does 14.04 Hate AMD?

I did both on my 32 bit AMD Sempron(tm) 2800+.
First the upgrade wouldn't get past the early
part of the bootup before crashing.  Then I
tried an install disk, and that wouldn't boot
either.  Pretty much the same story with both.
