I get rid of that annoying box. Click the "x" on the bar that slides out
of the side. Haven't found anything it was good for yet.

First step is to right click the big blue button with the "K" on it.
Click on "Switch to classic menu style" or something to that effect.
Left click on the big blue button. Go down the menu to "System". Go down
to "Konsole" and click. A window will open with a black background and
writing in the top. Copy and paste

sudo apt-get install synaptic

into that box. Hit <Enter> on the keyboard. Type in your login password
and hit <Enter>. Once it stops and is back to the prompt close that
window. Click the big blue button again.Go down to System. Go down to
Synaptic and click. Enter password. There is just about any and every
kind of software you will ever need. [ The KDE software manager sucks ]
In the search box type in what your looking for and go through the
offerings.

Everything is in the menu under the big blue button. It's all
categorized by what it does. Some of the names can be a bit silly at
first but after a while they start to make a kind of sense when you
realize the acronyms used. Settings is where you find System Settings,
and other configuration stuff. I'm sure there will be a time when you
break something in settings. I would hate to tell you how many times I
broke my system when I first started. I just reloaded and figured I had
learned what not to do.
