Kubuntu 12.04 Section with no Package:header?

Hi Folks,
I have encountered a problem with both muon & synaptic package managers 
unable to open with the following errors.
"E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList 
/var/lib/apt/lists/za.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_precise-updates_multiverse_i18n_Translation-en
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report."

I'm using kubuntu 12.04 fully up to date system.KDE ver 4.12.2

Tried opening in a terminal but no joy. Tried sudo dpkg --configure -a. 
sudo apt-get install -a. Also no joy.
Apt reported:
" E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList 
/var/lib/apt/lists/za.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_precise-updates_multiverse_i18n_Translation-en
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened."

The software centre also has the same problem.

Any help or advice would really be appreciated.
