mouse input issues.

Hello,  I am in desperate need of some help.  My desktop system has been
running well for a few weeks on 14.04 with kde 4.13.3.   Today I ran the
suggested software updates.  I didn't pay much attention to what was being
updated other that to see it wasn't a kernel update or anything.  I like to
keep up with updates as they come.

Now I have this problem where I chant click on the activity bar or close
windows.  if I press ctrl+esc to view the activity window I can't click on
anything in the window, but I can navigate with the keyboard.  I can only
close it by clicking ctrl+esc again.

This behavior will suddenly change and I can click on the activity bar and
close windows but I can't do anything in the applications. or sometimes it
seems that most things will work, but then I click on the K menu and I
can't select anything with the mouse, just the keyboard.

This has effectively stopped me from working today.  I need help as soon as
possible.
