power supplies are relatively inexpensive and an 8yr old one is probably 
pretty tired.. so I would replace that and see if it solves the problem. 
and can always be transfered to a new computer. get enough watts for the 
future.

and 8 yrs old probably needs a new CPU which almost automatically call for 
a new motherboard.
