No sound in 14.04

Hello Phil,
It sounds like a driver support issue.
Try adding the the Ubuntu vivid backports repo. There is an Ubuntu doc on
what to do for desktop versions, but it will do is give you newer kernel
and x window binaries.
I'll post the line to the page when I get back home.
