Ark producing unreadable zip files

The other day I tried to compress some files to a zip file using Ark, but when 
I tried to open them on another computer using different software, they 
couldn't be read. Going back to the zip file and testing them on the command 
line with unzip produces this:

End-of-central-directory signature not found.  Either this file is not
  a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive.  In the
  latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
  the last disk(s) of this archive.
unzip:  cannot find zipfile directory in one of msworks.wps.zip or
        msworks.wps.zip.zip, and cannot find msworks.wps.zip.ZIP, period.

Ark has no problem unzipping them though.
