Not ready for prime time or is just a case of pebkac?

Sorry if this sounds like a rant, it probably is.
After my hard disk crashed, I decided to give kubuntu a try (after many
years of using another distribution with kde).
Unfortunately, despite the stunning looks of a modern plasma desktop
(albeit with a dearth of available desktop widgets), after a week I can
say that nothing seems to work as I was used to:
1) bluedevil
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluedevil/+bug/1466354
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluedevil/+bug/1466347
(ok, ubuntu ships an outdated version of Bluez, but still it is annoying).
2) the korganizer daemon randomly stops reminding me of appointments.
Today I cannot even open korganizer from the system tray (I could
yesterday), only from the k menu.
3) the problem with the screen reported here:
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kubuntu-devel/2015-June/009587.html
only, this is a fresh install, it happens not only when
plugging/removing an external monitor but also when resuming. I have
been using nvidia with kde (not kubuntu) for the past 2 years, and I
never saw this problem before. Btw, turning the compositing off
(ctrl+shift-f12) fixes it.
4) recently, after an upgrade to the kubuntu-ppa/backports, after a
resume I'm greeted with a black screen. I have to turn to another tty an
kill kscreenlocker_greet
5) just now, trying point 4 above, kinit crashed, luckily thunderbird
saved the draft
6) new today, I click on a text file in dolphin (which, btw, seems to be
forgetting the places I add), and it tells me it cannot open
/usr/bin/kate. I can launch kate from the k menu. Maybe a reboot will
help, I don't know, closing and reopening the session didn't.
7) also new today, it forgot the wifi network I've been using at home
during the last week.
8) not new the problem with networkmanager and VLANs: I have to turn
them on manually since networkmanager refuses to bring them up itself
(with a less than helpful error message). Not to speak about the
problems caused by the vboxnet0 (virtual box host only networking),
which today networkmanager decided to use as a default route instead of
the wired ethernet.
9) various notifications of "system processes" crashing (e.g, plasma)
Am I doing something wrong?
Bye
