Hi Dale,

On the affect PC could you email the output of the following:

$ echo $XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP
$ echo $KDE_FULL_SESSION

The values should be KDE and true respectively; if not, I'll be somewhat confused but will continue to try to help :D
