And we have lost some key developers who will be stepping back from 15.10 release to work on other projects. So it is certain that things will change. Recently we had an election for the Kubuntu Council, and we plan to be around for the long haul. In our last meeting with the Ubuntu Community Council, we were assured that the Ubuntu community as a whole and the community leadership as well, wants Kubuntu, and will support us in our effort to bring out the best KDE distribution on the planet. With the stepping away of some of our most productive developers though, we do have openings for those in the community who want to step up and help out. As you know, we've always been a community-produced distro. We'll continue to work in that way, and would welcome your help, no matter what your skill level. Seriously, newcomers often point out problems that more experienced users just work around without thinking about. So come help us make Kubuntu shine. IRC: #kubuntu-devel Mail-list: kubuntu-devel at lists.ubuntu.com And of course join us in our UOS planning sessions as well. I will write once those meetings are scheduled. There is no "en_JP.UTF-8" as far as I can tell. But it also does not have to be! I at home two other machines: xubuntu based installation + Mint. Both have the locale set to Japan, but the system language is nevertheless English. All software works as expected. With kubuntu - which DID work in this way before! - the ONLY way to make it work I could find, is to set locale completely to Japanese. Then both files are read/opened and Cherrytree works. This cannot be right. Why can I not live in Japan and still have English as the system interface language??? This program allows users of KDE Plasma 5 to use applications which supports only legacy system tray icons as simple as applications which support the SNI specification. xembed-sni-proxy is currently available in Debian unstable in the package plasma-systray-legacy [2]. Probably it is too late to add this package into official Ubuntu archive before Ubuntu Wily is released [3]. But users of Ubuntu Vivid and Ubuntu Wily may install this package from a special PPA [4]. I hope it should simplify the migration from KDE 4 to KDE Plasma 5 for usual users who don't know the difference between legacy system tray protocol (XEmbed) and new StatusNotifierItem specification, but who might be disappointed when some of programs will suddenly disappear from a "system tray" area after update of their system. There you can set the method of IP-address-gaining, in your case you may choose manually and then enter all the stuff required for the connection. Valter Open Source is better! Sent from my Android device ---------- Messaggio inoltrato ---------- Da: "Jonathan Riddell" Data: 23/ott/2015 10:56 Oggetto: Standing down as release manager A: "Kubuntu Developer Discussion" Cc: With 15.10 successfully released I'm standing down as release manager of Kubuntu. Making Kubuntu over the last 10 years has been a fantastic journey. Even since I first heard about a spaceman making a Linux distro using Debian but faster release cycles I've known this would be something important and wanted KDE to be part of it. Bringing together KDE and Ubuntu has created the best operating system we can and the best community to work on it. The life of an international freedom fighter is a fun one, I've traveled the world on private jet to meet extraordinary people and see amazing places. I watched monkeys swing from the network cables of Bengaluru and raced motorcycles through the slums of Kano. I was a a bit put out to be attacked by pirates in the Carribean but the help of the Kubuntu community and wider Ubuntu community helped me come back. Community made open source software needs people to be able to take out what they've put in. Ubuntu's licences and policies enforce this. However for the last three years Ubuntu's main sponsor Canonical has had a policy contrary to this and after much effort to try to rectify this it's clear that isn't going to happen. The Ubuntu leadership seems compliant with this so I find myself unable to continue helping a project that won't obey its own community rules and I need to move on. I won't be going far, I'll be helping out in KDE more, the original and best end-user free software community who have always been wonderful. At a meeting with the Ubuntu Community Council to find a way forward I was told to remove myself from the Kubuntu Council launchpad team. This was done under duress and is contrary to to the votes of Kubuntu members who were never consulted on this. No way forward was suggested by the UCC. This has led to to an ambiguous situation on whether I'm still in the council or not so I'll now withdraw my membership of Kubuntu council to tidy that up. Ubuntu now needs to work out if it still wants to be a community made project. I've heard from too many people who feel they have been bullied out of the project for this to be a personal problem. It needs a community council who will stand up for the third party and volunteer developers, who will critisise when money is collected for additional use of commmunity but not used for this and who will ensure the Ubuntu policies on copyright licences are not in question and above all one that does not cause people to leave the project being felt they have been bullied out. Good luck.
