going from 14.04 LTS to 16.04.1

14.04 LTS to 16.04.1 LTS doesn't work so do I have to go through 14.10, 
15.04, 15.10, 16.04, 16.10.1 sequence to get there?  Will that actually 
work of will it still completely trash the whole computer tike the LTS 
to LTS upgrade did  thought waiting to the .1 version of an LTS version 
was to clear away upgrade bugs. Losing the whole system is not well 
received by our people so none of our other machines will now be 
upgraded.  Now, they say I have to find a more reliable Linux system.
