suspend to ram for a long time

Having just closed a bug about coming back from hibernation after long
periods, I find that coming back from suspend to ram after long periods
doesn't work :/

After I suspended to RAM overnight, I turned it on this morning and get
a half greyed out gnome background. I can kill X and restart gdm, and
then log in again.

Could this be an xscreensaver or acpi-support bug? Anyone else seeing
it? Any hints on how to debug would be great.
