mouse-touchpad not working

hi,
I am a new user of Ubuntu gnu/linux on my laptop. My laptop is sis Mobo 630.
I am facing a strange problem while trying to work

Mouse pad does not work from the Ubuntu installed on the hard-disk infact
even the
device /dev/input/mouse0 is missing. But the mouse-pad works perfectly fine
from the
Ubuntu-live-cd.

Any feedbacks/fixes for this?
