Hi
mp3 only play in very short loops (~1-2sec) in this
laptop. Though CDs play OK as analog only, not
digital analog extraction.

>From toshiba spec sheet it uses a Yamaha OPL3-SA3 that
is on isa bus (pnp).

>From debian kernel config it seems that this sound
card has modules from both oss and alsa: opl3sa2 or
snd-opl3sa2.

It is loaded by modprobe and is found by "lsmod |grep
opl3".

After reading the
/usr/src/kernel-source-2.6.11/Documentation/sound/oss
it suggests to load modules and parameters:

modprobe mpu401
modprobe ad1848
modprobe opl3sa2 io=0x370 mss_io=0x530 mpu_io=0x330
irq=5 dma=0 dma2=1
modprobe opl3 io=0x388

which got sound, but in 1 second loops.

So then a search for the pnp-isa address with pnpdump
ended up with "# No boards found"

However a "lspnp" returns with:
'lspnp: /proc/bus/pnp not available'

which is strange as sound is happening, xmms plays mp3
in loops, and plays CDs well.

so what to do next?

regards

Russell
