Hello,

I have recently purchased a HP Pavilion ze2397ea laptop which comes
with an amd64 cpu. I have installed Kubuntu Breezy with the kernel
2.6.12-10-386 on it ( I know there is a 64bit distribution, but I have
downgraded to 32bit because there is no jdk for 64bit. Anyway, I had
the same problem with the 64bit version) My problem is that the system
clock is running too fast. I think this has something to do with the
following error:
APIC error on CPU0: 40 (40).

This error appears during boot time and also in the system log. Here
is the result of dmesg:

It goes on printing this error message at least fifty times. I have
read in some forums that passing apic=nopaic to the kernel as a boot
parameter might solve this problem, but I have also read that doing so
may cause the Ethernet card not to work properly. I have also tried to
find out what this error code means, but I haven't had any success so
far.

I have noticed other errors in the system log:

swsusp: Suspend partition has wrong signature?

EISA: Probing bus 0 at eisa.0
Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 1
Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 8
EISA: Detected 0 cards.

In addition to all this, I have noticed that the fan is constantly
working, although the laptop doesn't seem to get too hot.

Technical specifications of this laptop can be found here,

http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/es/es/ho/WF06b/21955-186135-315641-315641-315641-12255754-64295641.html

I have been unable to find the english version of the technical
specifications, so if there is need of clarification, just ask me.

Any hints on what to do next would be appreciated. I am a linux
newbie, so I don't have any idea of how to fix these problems. If
someone needs more information, just ask for it. I'll be glad to
provide it.

Thanks in advance!
