Please update && dist-upgrade to current Dapper (Flight 5 is
insufficient). Make sure you're running linux-image-2.6.15-19* .

After the new kernel revision is installed, please reboot and confirm
that your sound chipset is detected properly:

$ cat /proc/asound/cards

You should then be able to adjust the volume(s) using any mixer tool
(amixer, alsamixer, aumix, GNOME's Volume Control applet, and so on).
