Why every *-amd64-* package is described as "obsoleted" by the
corresponding -generic package? For example: linux-image-amd64-generic
is obsoleted by linux-image-generic but it also depends on the same
package!

Why there is no linux-image-2.6.17-10-amd64-generic but only
linux-image-2.6.17-10-generic? x86_64 is not supported any more?

Im confused. Sorry if it is a bit off-topic but I am worried about
laptop support for AMD64 which is much more popular in laptops than in
desktops, right? I bought such a laptop only because of Linux (Ubuntu).

Ive installed lacking packages and nVidia proprie$ary driver is working
with that 2.6.17-10 kernel. Thanks!
